David Letterman blackmail case: TV producer pleads guilty

The TV producer accused of trying to extort millions from chat show host David Letterman has pleaded guilty in the blackmail case.

Robert Halderman threatened to reveal details of Letterman's sexual affairs with several of female co-workers unless he was paid 2 million dollars, the BBC reported.

Letterman confessed infidelity on-air and issued a public apology to his wife Regina Lasko on his 'Late Show with David Letterman'.

He later approached authorities telling them that he was being blackmailed to keep the information out of the public domain.

The legal team for Halderman previously argued he was trying "to sell rights to a screenplay inspired by Letterman's sexually-charged workplace".

Halderman is now set to serve six months in prison, perform 1,000 hours of community service and give up his right to appeal against his conviction.

He is due to be formally sentenced in May. (ANI)
