    Apple announces sudden death of director York

    Apple Inc has announced the death of one of its directors, Jerry York.

    Mr York who sat on Apple's board, once worked as chief financial officer at IBM Corp and Chrysler, and served on the board of General Motors.

    He was also a long-time adviser to billionaire investor Kirk Kerkorian.

    Jerry York was rushed to hospital near his home in Detroit on Wednesday after suffering a collapse.

    He was born in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1938.
