UK people believe retirement as it has been known is generally over.

A BBC Newsnight poll has revealed some 70% of 1,000 asked thought it would not be feasible for them to stop work before living on a pension for up to 30 years.

Some 72% of those in work were worried that they would not have the needed funds to even enjoy retirement.

The poll of a cross section of adults followed a number of changes to retirement rules, announced by the previous and current governments.

The coalition government confirmed in July that they would speed up the process for changes to the eligibility age for drawing the state pension.

They said it would start at 66 prior to the date set by the previous government, which had proposed raising the state pension age to 66 in 2024, reaching 68 by 2046.
